It is well....

I write this with tears rolling down my face.  As I read the news headlines, I am overwhelmed.  Each headlines  feels like a physical blow.....Oil tipped to bubble over $100 per barrel; US Treasuries hit by biggest selloff since Lehmans;  Food stamps rolls continue to rise;  Walmart joins with DHS in "If you see something, say somthing";  and the list just goes on and on.  My country is falling apart.

Am I weeping for my creature comforts and my lost dreams?  Maybe, a little.  But what I am really weeping for is the greed, the pride, the sin that brought us to this point.  I weep for the very integrity of a country bent on destruction.  We have put our own needs before the needs of others.  We have forgotten to stand in the gap between evil and good.  We have followed the crowd and been lead like sheep to the slaughter.

As my mind reels, as I struggle to understand where we are as a nation - one song keeps rolling through the forefront of my soul...."It is well".  It reminds me that this life is but a vapor, a poor reflection of eternity.  My only concern is to see that it is well with my soul.

It is Well

  1. When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
    When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
    • Refrain:
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
  2. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
    Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.
  3. My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
  4. For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
If Jordan above me shall roll,
No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.
  5. But, Lord, ’tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
    The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
Oh, trump of the angel! Oh, voice of the Lord!
Blessed hope, blessed rest of my soul!
  6. And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
    The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.

  1. Amen! With GOD in one's life, you can truly say, It is well with my soul. Blessings to you and yours.

    Matthew 6:33

  2. Blessings to You and Yours, T.

  3. Mam, Beautifully written. I could not have said it better. Just know that you do not cry alone. For us and our children and grandchildren and those of others sorrow can sometimes overwhelm us. I would have never guessed that this country could have gone downhil so fast. I never thought I would have seen what has happpened to us in my lifetime. I pray that God will give us wisdom to help guide us through the hard times that face us all. mwp

  4. Your tears are justified, as your heart is breaking for the peril we are in as a nation. You live your life a spiritual model for all to see, being hands and feet of the Lord's love, and your heart is attuned to the plans He has had for us these short centuries. You know He wants great things for this land, because you know Him and His nature.

Is our Father finished with us yet? Have we pushed Him away a final time? Is He ready to abandon us? I cannot answer my own questions, but we have 2 Chronicles 7:14 to stand on until He answers them for us.

I believe that it is never too late for a people to repent, to turn from their wicked ways, and to seek His face. As long as the blood of Christ washes away sin, we will have this hope in Him.

And with that hope, we have an obligation to speak truth, to shine His light on the sin and the corruption that have overtaken us.

You are completely correct, the responsibility for the potential failure of our nation falls on those who have made a travesty of this Divine experiment, who have twisted truth and promoted perversion. But nothing is too difficult for our Father, and as long as we surrender to Him and answer His call when it sounds, we can live in hope.

Be of good cheer, He has overcome the world.

  5. Yes, we're a nation bent on destruction. This is not new, progressivism has been eating away at our national soul since 1900 or so. It's just that it's accelerated since the Muslim-in-chief got elected.

We might save our country, IF we demand better from our elected officials at ALL levels. And if we demand better from our friends and family. And if we demand better of ourselves, first and foremost. While we cannot control others, (merely lead them to the truth and the way), we can control ourselves. To that end, I made a conscious decision to learn more about my faith and to live it. It's difficult, I often fall short, but I will keep working on it because through Jesus there is forgiveness and peace.

Render to Caesar that which is Caesar's. God has never failed us, we fail ourselves and those we elect fail us. We fell asleep at the wheel and let them do as they pleased, now we are it too late to correct the course of our ship of state? Maybe, maybe not. We won't know if we don't work on changing it. That requires a personal commitment, rather than leaving the hard work to others.

I cannot count how many times I've read some fine post by someone online or in the paper or heard them speak out on TV, but then they do nothing. Words are easy, it's the doing part that gets difficult. I call upon all of us to DO SOMETHING. Call, write, email, visit your school board meetings, your city council meetings, your state legislators, Governors, Representatives, Senators, and the President. Let them know you are not going away quietly. Don't threaten, but don't accept their standard answers. Demand written responses and don't be afraid to tell them who you are. Be brave. We outnumber the ungodly, at least for now.

We cannot change anything if we wait for others to do the work. WE ARE THE PEOPLE the Declaration of Independence referred to. Now we need to act like it. Be silent no more - speak out, stand up, demand better, do better. Be honest, be brave, be united in purpose. Let's turn things around and perhaps God will smile on America again.

My ancestors, and yours, didn't work all their lives and make huge sacrifices just so WE could shirk our duties as citizens. Our we to be the worst generation? Is our chapter in the history book going to be the one that says we gave our freedoms away? Or is our chapter in teh history books going to say we changed the course and then God smiled on us again? Pray, and do what you can as often as you can. It's up to us.

  6. Enola and Kris,
    ...thank you.

  7. Thanks for your post, Enola. I noticed yesterday that silver had hit $30. I've been following the preparedness ideas for a couple years now, doing what I can and trying to make sense of things, but I had lapsed in my knowledge of silver. To realize that the cost has doubled since I started paying attention, well, it leaves me in shock. In addition to what I've read in the last four months re: the world and in particular the US, I am in double shock. Like you, I did not think the US could change so quickly. I live in Canada, and I'm at a loss about what to do. We have extremely little.

  8. You can't know how much this post touched my heart today. I weep with you and find comfort in this beautiful song as well. God Bless.

  9. So that's it? We're all going to cry together? If that's all any of you are willing to do, then we are lost. We deserve God's scorn if we won't stand up for what's right.

    NoCal Gal

  10. Very beautifully said. Thanks.

  11. Amen!
Thank you Lord that this life IS but a vapor..

  12. Some of us DO still stand up for what is right, but still break down in tears. The constant fight to save what's left gets tiring...

  13. Dear Enola Gay, A most excellent post! The very first time I heard this song it was sung by Joni Eareckson Tada who was paralyzed from the neck down in a diving accident. What a testimony! It has meant so much to me ever since then. Whenever I begin to complain or worry, I realize that I am instructed by God to let Him take care of all of that for me. The end has to come - it is already written. Now as we all watch the happenings in our beloved country, I am tempted to despair...but the Lord always lifts me up and soothes my mind and tells me to get about my work. What a great God!! Enola Gay, it is a pleasure to read your blog and I look forward to seeing every update. Please keep up the good work! You and Patrice and Chloris of 'Letters from a Homesteading Wife' are a great source of knowledge and inspiration for me. I wish I could return the favor.
    God Bless,
    Janet in MA

  14. Yes, Violet, it gets very tiring. I understand that, I often get tired and sometimes I cry. But we must not quit. Instead, we must pull together because we outnumber them. There is still a chance we can save our republic. I'd rather keep trying than give up. I'd rather die with my boots on, and meet God as a champion for what's right than die a serf with a brand on my forehead.

Crying doesn't help. Praying does. Working together does. Crying only makes me sad. I don't want to feel sad. I want to feel empowered and ready. Buck up, stand firm. Pray hard. We can do this!

  15. God has led me WAAAAAAY to far to leave me now. I pray that he will give all of us the peace that goes beyond understanding. I stand firm in my convictions that God is God and he all ways will be God. If it comes to a point that I lay down my life for my country then so be it, for I go to my grave knowing I have his love and blessings and a new home to call my own.
